Apple Week at St Christopher’s Prep School and Nursery

Apple Week at St Christopher’s Prep School and Nursery in South Devon was bursting with colour, laughter, and discovery. From our Nursery children to those in Year 6, everyone joined in to celebrate all things apple – learning, tasting, creating, and exploring together.

The week began with an adventure to Mrs Kenyon’s orchard, where our Lower School pupils learned about the many varieties of apples and the care that goes into growing them. With baskets in hand, they gathered a wonderful harvest ready for our very own Apple Day back at school.

Apple Day itself was celebrated with a carousel of fun activities following morning lessons and the much-loved reading of The Apple Story. Children explored apple-themed crafts, tasting sessions, games, and simple science experiments, all designed to make learning hands-on and memorable. Activities like these are a fantastic way to combine creativity, curiosity, and confidence-building in our Early Years and primary classrooms.

Apple Day has a rich history. The environmental charity Common Ground launched it in 1990 to celebrate orchards, biodiversity, and local communities. Today, schools, orchards, and communities across the UK continue to celebrate Apple Day with activities that connect people to nature and local produce. For ideas on creating apple-themed learning experiences, this Early Years apple activity guide is a fantastic resource. There’s also inspiration to be had from The Orchard Project’s Helping Britain Blossom Guide to Apple Day (PDF).

If you’re looking for a South Devon independent school where your child can thrive in a caring and inspiring setting, we’d love to welcome you to St Christopher’s Prep School and Nursery.
