As we look ahead to a new year, it’s the perfect time to reflect on the incredible Autumn term we had at St. Christopher’s Prep School and Nursery. It was filled with learning, creativity, and memorable experiences – from arts to sports, music to outdoor learning, our pupils have accomplished so much and have made us all very proud.
Our Enhancement classes are proving a wonderful addition to our curriculum. This term, many topics were explored such as ‘Conservation and Ecology’ focusing on common UK bird species and learning how to protect their habitats concluding with making bird feeders, turning knowledge into action and supporting local wildlife.
Artistic creativity flourished with Prep 1 and 2 producing stunning Autumnal pumpkin art inspired by Japanese artist Yayoi Kusama. Her famous polka-dot designs provided a wonderful starting point, and the children’s work was vibrant and inspiring.
The sports field was alive with action and success. Our U9 Tag Rugby team had an outstanding performance at the ISA South West competition, topping their group and winning a thrilling match against St. Joseph’s to make it to the final. Though they were narrowly beaten by Heywood Prep, their determination and teamwork were extraordinary. Netball sessions started with older pupils helping newcomers, creating a welcoming and supportive atmosphere.
Meanwhile, three of our swimmers—Freddie, Edward, and Indie—competed at the ISA National Swimming Finals at the Olympic pool in Greenwich. Indie earned a silver medal in the relay, and all three represented the South West with distinction.
Music played a significant role this term. Two of our pupils, Gib and Sebby, joined the prestigious Buckfast Abbey Choristership, committing to three rehearsals a week and gaining an incredible musical education. We sang carols in Totnes and Poetry Assemblies were another highlight, with pupils performing pieces on themes of Autumn and Remembrance with creativity and bravery.
Prep 6 had the opportunity to develop important skills during Life Skills Day in Ivybridge, while our youngest pupils delighted in caring for baby chicks—a hands-on experience they’ll never forget. In food technology, Prep 2 learned new baking skills, including making delicious sausage rolls.
The Harvest Service, led by Rev. Gina, brought our community together to support our link school in Uganda through generous donations. The festive season added even more joy, with carol singing in tones, a wonderful nativity at Pennywell surrounded by real animals, and a magical school disco organised by FOSC. The disco was a huge success, with a transformed hall, a DJ, party food, and a chill-out room for the children to enjoy.
The term ended on a high note with Christmas parties, a visit from a very special guest, and a beautiful carol service in the church at Staverton that celebrated the birth of Jesus with music and storytelling.
We hope you’ve all had a wonderful festive season, and we’d like to wish you all the very best for 2025.
Spring term begins on Wednesday, January 8 and we can’t wait to welcome everyone back!
