Communication & Language

Continue to listen and engage within Story and Rhyme, to be able to recall details and predict outcomes. They will be able to follow two -and three-step instructions and ask, and answer, relevant ‘how and why’ questions about their own activities. They should also be able to express themselves effectively, continuing to develop our spoken language skills. Throughout the term we will be developing concentration through different activities in preparation for Prep 1.

Number

We will be working on a large variety of topics including; counting and ordering numbers to 20. Continuing to count in 10’s to 100. Have a greater understanding of tens and units, counting on and place value. Solve problems involving doubling, halving and sharing. Recapping and identifying numbers which are one more and one less and continuing our work on addition and subtraction.

Shape, Space and Measure

Organising and sorting 3D shapes. Introduce the concept of quarters using objects. Looking at time. What is ‘o’ clock?’ Continuing to practise and order objects by height, weight and length.

French

French

We will continue to build confidence in speaking French and will enjoy learning lots of new vocabulary. This term, our topics will include words related to the weather, parts of the body, and classroom objects. We will use the La Jolie Ronde scheme to support our learning and engage in activities, songs, and rhymes.

This term we will continue to find out more about Jesus by looking at the many stories he told. We shall be thinking about how we can live our lives as Jesus would like us to live them.

This term, Reception will continue to expand their musical experiences by learning call and response songs and then adding percussion parts to them. We’ll be thinking about long sounds and short sounds, as well as carefully choosing which instruments best compliment the pieces we have learnt.

This term in art we will continue to explore a variety of materials, tools and techniques, experimenting with colour, design, texture, form and function.  The children will continue to improve cutting skills to manipulate basic materials and develop work.

They will be able to represent their own ideas, thoughts and feelings through design and technology, art, music, dance, role play and stories. In Music and Eurhythmics we will sing songs, make music, dance and experiment with ways of changing them. They will learn to perform songs with actions and movement developing their sense of pulse, duration and pitch.

Games: The time will be spent on introducing a selection of athletic activities and skills – to include sprinting, hurdles and relays.

PE: Development of large and small ball skills through a variety of hitting and catching games. In addition, they will work on team relays.

Literacy

Phonics: Continuing to revise our set 2 speed sounds and begin to learn set 3. We will focus on reading and spelling High frequency words. A spelling test will be set weekly and differentiated accordingly. This will follow a mixture of green words from our ‘Get Writing’ story each week together with the 100 High Frequency words.

Reading:  Continuing to develop reading skills through the use of phonics. Daily reading will continue at your child’s own speed. We will continue to look at non-fiction books and look at features of these. Orally retelling familiar stories related to our topics. Developing our skills to answer comprehension questions orally.

Writing: Developing skills to write full sentences independently. Continuing with the Read Write Inc, Get Writing Scheme, concentrating on sentence formation and understanding. We will be writing for a purpose, e.g. to tell a story, share a fact etc. Use words such as ‘and’ and ‘because’ to extend sentences. Continue to use adjectives to describe and write short descriptive phrases.

Amazing Animals – We will explore different habitats around the world, including polar regions, savanna and jungle areas, exploring what animals live there and learn lots of facts about deadly animals.

Oh I do like to be beside the seaside – The second half of the term the children will be really immersed in the theme of ‘Seaside.’ They will adventure to rockpools, investigating what animals live in our coastlines. They will go on an adventure with the lighthouse keepers’ lunch, coming up with new ways to outwit the seagulls, as well as learn about lighthouses. We will also explore how the seaside has changed over the years, as well as learning about how important it is to clean up the beaches.

Personal, Social & Emotional

Personal, Social & Emotional

Within the Personal, Social and Emotional area of our Curriculum we are working on disposition, attitude and the social and emotional well-being of the children. Continuing to work on playing together and making positive relationships with our peers. Towards the end of term, we will be beginning to work on our transition to Prep 1 by building on our independence skills and looking at what changes to expect. This will include some move up mornings towards the end of term.

PSHE

PSHE

This term our core topic is Health and Wellbeing. We will be exploring the following three areas:

  1. Physical health and wellbeing – why sleep is important, medicines and keeping healthy, keeping teeth healthy, food and exercise, managing feelings and asking for help.
  2. Growing and changing – recognising what makes them unique and special, feelings, managing when things don’t go to plan.
  3. Keeping safe – safety in different environments, risk and safety at home, emergencies.

ICT

ICT

This term pupils will be introduced to the various parts of a computer and what each one does. They will learn to use a variety of age-appropriate apps to enhance their learning within other areas of the curriculum using a laptop computer as well as an i-pad.

Art

Art

This term we will continue learning to construct with a purpose to achieve a planned effect, with the emphasis on the process they go through; taking pride in their creative achievements. We will experiment with different materials, tools and techniques, including exploring colour combinations and mixing to create different effects in our art work.

Our art work will be based on both topic and summer themes.
