Abseiling at PLG Barton Hall

Enrichment Week at St Christopher’s proved to be a wonderful few days for all our children and staff. With fresh air and sunshine as the order of the day, it was a fulfilling experience, giving lasting memories of a positive time among friends and comrades.
We’re so lucky to have such a huge choice in the West Country when it comes to selecting locations for the children’s Enrichment Week. This year, we chose PGL Barton Hall South Devon in Torquay, a coastal retreat featuring a range of outdoor activities designed to promote teamwork, build confidence, and encourage support among group members. The children participated in thrilling adventures like abseiling, climbing, and zip-lining, as well as enjoying the facility’s amenities, such as a lake for watersports and an indoor activity zone.
Meanwhile, Prep 5 and 4 embarked on an unforgettable journey at OA Surf Club in Bude. With breathtaking sunsets, expansive beaches, and unparalleled views, the children had an incredible time learning canoeing skills in Bude Canal, constructing sea-saws made from driftwood found on the beach, and experiencing the thrill of surfing and bodyboarding.
Lower School, on the other hand, ventured to various destinations, including Powderham Castle, where they gained insight into the kitchen operations of a bygone era; Dartmoor Zoo, where they embarked on a fantastic journey with keeper Andy; and Occombe Farm in Paignton, where they cultivated their culinary skills, animal-handling skills, and cooking techniques. It wasn’t all about food though – everyone’s favourite part of the day was undoubtedly petting the adorable guinea pigs.
In another fascinating excursion, Prep 3 visited Torre Abbey, a historic scheduled monument dating back to 1196, set within 18 acres of picturesque gardens and parkland. This ancient site has been a hub for creativity and culture, hosting exhibitions, workshops, and events that showcase the region’s finest local talent and artists.
As our Enrichment Week drew to a close, we concluded with a group outing to Blackpool Sands, where we explored the shoreline, played exciting games, and soaked up the fresh air and breathtaking scenery before breaking for half-term.
