Living Coasts – Prep 1 & Prep 2

Posted: 9th November 2018

On Wednesday all of Prep 1 and Prep 2 went to Living Coasts to learn about the animals living in our seas.  It was wet but we enjoyed finding out about the animals that live in our seas. We looked carefully to see how different animals are adapted to different habitats. One of the things we learned in the penguin workshop is that actually penguins have quite long leg bones. We learned about penguin skeletons and tried to walk like a penguin. The children also enjoyed communicating like a penguin.

Penguins are birds because they have feathers. Penguins have wings but they can’t fly but they can swim fast with them. Penguins lay eggs just like birds that can fly. Penguins eat fish, krill and squid, but killer whales and sharks eat penguins.

Penguins are a type of bird. Macaroni penguins have yellow feathers on their head. Macaroni penguins are fatter than the African penguins. African penguins have black spots. Penguins eat fish and squid and krill. Penguins are fast at swimming.
